Many educators are asked to reflect on the first week of school. As a matter of fact, many ask, "So how was your first week?" Even with the soaring temperatures, which some might also follow up with a second question, the start to another academic year has been wonderful! As we brace for yet another warm week our students are in full force academically, socially, and athletically. As we move gradually into a four day week I wanted to remind all students and parents of our open house tomorrow night, September 8th from 6-7:30. This is a great opportunity for parents to meet their students teachers and ask about the academic expectations and rigor for each course. I welcome all of you to visit our school, tour our facility and enjoy the company of your student while they walk you through their daily schedule. Also on the horizon:
1. I will be setting a meeting date for our proficiency based education awareness evening soon. This is a great time for parents and students to ask questions, while we provide information that is key to success for graduating classes of 2018 and 2019.
2. WHS will be participating in the School Spirit Challenge on October 30th this year. I will be sending out a memo to all parents regarding our fundraising efforts for the Good Shephard Food Bank.
3. Our school will ask have the Harlem Wizards visiting WHS in mid September for a combined program with the middle school focusing on anti-bullying programming.
4. Also around the same time, Mallory Brooke a meteorologist from WMTW will be visiting our Science classes to discuss weather and its effects, while linking her presentation through our STEM standards.
Many new and exciting things are to come and we appreciate all of your efforts in making WHS a fantastic place to learn.
